KREUZABNAHME
Drypoint. 1918.
Signed and dated in pencil lower right Beckmann 18, titled left Kreuzabnahme and inscribed (Handdruck erster Zustand). On chamois laid paper with watermark ORIGINAL HAND LINEN P & H, with full margins.
A brilliant, fine impression of the first state, with platetone. Extremely rare, Hofmaier records only further 2 impressions. In 1919, the second state of the print was published as Plate 11 in the portfolio Gesichter. Unlike the even and punchy impressions of the published state, executed by professional printers, this proof, pulled by the artist himself, shows a much greater variety of accents and differenciation and allows us to follow Beckmann's sensations and creative process. Size: 305 x 254 mm (503 x 329 mm)
